How long should you run an air purifier before changing the filter?
The quality of air that we inhale may have severe effects on our health. Living around polluted air containing harmful airborne pollutants and allergens like dust, pollen, or mold particulates can cause several airborne respiratory issues, asthma, or allergies.
To clean the polluted air, several air purifiers are available.
An air purifier filter’s function is to filter out and eliminate these air pollutants. However, the filter eventually gets clogged with dust and other pollutants with time, and its cleaning capacity gets reduced. To keep the air purifier working effectively, you must know how often you should change the filter.
There can be many factors to determine when to change or clean the filter. Some of them are:
1. Purifier Model:
Most of the time, air purifying filters come with filter check indicators that will notify when it’s time to change the filter. It can be at around one year for the HEPA filters, and for others, it can be shorter. For other purifiers that don’t come with the indicator feature, you can refer to the user’s manual to know the best time to change the filter.
- Usable Hours:
The number of hours the air purifying system is used also accounts for the frequency of changing the filter. Running an air filter constantly 24/7 means it will need to have it’s filter changed frequently. The more you use the air purifier, the sooner the filter gets clogged, and the clogged filter slows down the process of cleaning the air.
Modern air purifiers also come with washable filters that you can clean out yourself from time to time to keep it clean and clog-free.
- AQI or PM Levels
The air pollution levels at your place are also determining factors of an air purifier filter’s lifespan. What is the Air Quality Index, or the level of PM2.5 and PM10 particles present in the air affects the health of the air purifier?
If the AQI is extremely poor and PM levels are unhealthy, the filter will need extra capacity to filter out the air, which will ultimately lead to a filter clogged with dust and air pollutants. On the other hand, if the AQI is better, then this timeline might increase.
- Environment
Is it a small air purifier for home or a purifier intended to be used for small spaces like small rooms, classrooms, or offices, or is it a large capacity purifier meant to be used for large space areas? Both factors regulate cleaning or replacing the filter. Small spaces purifiers may require less frequent cleaning or changing the filters than the purifiers used for large spaces.
Time To Breathe Pure Air
Now that you know the factors that will help you know the frequency of changing the filter, Tis’ time to change/clean the filter on time and inhale the fresh quality air free from pollutants. Choose the right air purifier, replace the filter on time, and live in a healthy, pure environment.
